In the 2023 NFL Draft, 35 players were selected who had not received invitations to the NFL Scouting Combine. Among these, 24 were defensive players, with three chosen in the third round. Kobie Turner, one of these players, distinguished himself by leading all rookie defensive linemen in sacks while also ranking among the top for pressures.
While being invited to the scouting combine is typically advantageous for prospects, it’s not a guarantee for getting drafted. The Denver Broncos have a track record of uncovering hidden talents who were undrafted and not initially invited to the Scouting Combine, such as Chris Harris and Phillip Lindsay. Given their limited number of picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Broncos could benefit from similar luck in discovering undrafted free agents.
Heading into the 2023 season, Boyd had accumulated 49 total pressures over four seasons, but he nearly doubled that with 40 pressures in the course of that single season. His performance was consistently strong as he operated across various positions on the defensive front.
Boyd didn’t attract much attention prior to the season, and although his performance was solid, there was nothing particularly remarkable to alter perceptions of him. While he impressed during the Shrine Bowl week, it may have come too late to significantly impact his draft stock.
Briggs displayed improved consistency in the 2023 season compared to previous years, despite not necessarily seeing a direct reflection of this in the statistical box scores. Although possessing promising attributes, he still needs to fully integrate his skills. While his showing at the Shrine Bowl was commendable, it might not have been enough to sway opinions, potentially being considered too late in the evaluation process.
Briggs’ collegiate career has been decent, albeit not outstanding. There’s a lingering concern that he is still in the process of refining his game even after five years of college play. His season bests include 23 pressures and five sacks.
