The Tennessee Vols baseball team pulled off an incredibly rare feat on Saturday night in their game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
In the top of the seventh inning, Tennessee pulled off a triple play to escape the inning unscathed.
Vols LHP Chris Stamos made an impressive diving catch on a bunt attempt with runners on first and second. After making the catch, Stamos quickly threw the ball to SS Christian Moore, who doubled up both runners to complete the triple play.
After the game, Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello told reporters he’s been a part of some triple plays before, but never one like that.
“I know I have a couple of times. I know that was probably one way I know I haven’t – don’t remember it being like that,” said Vitello. “I mean C-Mo (Moore) I think put about seven tags out there. However it was needing to get done. And of course you had the glove deal before it. However you can get the outs, you’ll take them.”
Tennessee lost the game 5-1 in extra innings. But that triple play is a moment Moore and the rest of the Vols lineup will remember for years to come.
