Former Denver Broncos quarterback praises Sam Darnold as a strong contender for the starting quarterback position.

In essence, the financial constraints faced by the Denver Broncos may push them towards taking a chance on a quarterback reclamation project this offseason. There’s an argument that head coach Sean Payton’s attempt to fully restore Russell Wilson’s former excellence in 2023 fell short. Now, compelled by the consequences of the deal that brought Wilson in, Payton can’t afford to be passive; he needs to think outside the box. However, if the Broncos part ways with Wilson, finding a suitable replacement among veteran quarterbacks is notoriously tricky.

Payton might consider turning to San Francisco 49ers backup Sam Darnold, who seems poised for a comeback, largely thanks to the skilled guidance of his quarterback coach Brian Griese.

According to Griese, “Sam has humbled himself and shown a lot of potential. He’s bound to excel in the league… He joined our team with a willingness to learn our system and gain stability, something he lacked before. He’s made progress and performed well whenever given the chance. While we can’t predict the future, I believe he’ll only improve as a player.”
