The Steelers are looking to re-sign Mason Rudolph.

The Steelers are looking to maintain consistency in their quarterbacks room, particularly with Mason Rudolph, as they aim to re-sign him. While Mitch Trubisky’s departure was expected, Rudolph’s potential exit is due to free agency. Despite being a former third-round draft pick in 2018, Rudolph’s playing time has been limited in recent years, with sporadic starts mainly due to injuries or other circumstances affecting the usual starter, Ben Roethlisberger.

Rudolph’s most recent significant playing time came towards the end of the 2023 season, when he stepped in for struggling Trubisky and injured Pickett. His success in those games has sparked internal debates within the Steelers organization about his potential as a starter for the upcoming 2024 season. However, this plan hinges on re-signing Rudolph, as the team is not interested in pursuing quarterbacks who desire a starting role elsewhere.

The preference seems to be maintaining Rudolph and Pickett as the primary contenders for the starting position, ruling out options like high-profile free agents or top rookie prospects. While the team may consider adding veteran depth at the position, securing Rudolph’s contract remains a priority for now.
