Tennessee Faces Off Against Oklahoma in Shriners Showdown
ARLINGTON, TX — Following a notable victory against No. 21 Texas Tech in Friday’s season-opener at the Shriners Children’s College Baseball Showdown, the Tennessee Vols return to action Saturday night at Globe Life Field against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Oklahoma (0-1) faced a setback on Friday in the tournament’s inaugural game, falling 4-2 to Oregon. Tennessee (1-0) will wrap up its Lone Star State weekend with a 7:30 pm Eastern Time matchup against Baylor on Sunday evening.
In an impressive debut weekend start for the Vols against the Red Raiders, sophomore pitcher AJ Russell shined, striking out 10 batters over 4.1 innings on the mound. Reliever AJ Causey (1-0) continued the momentum, pitching the final 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts as Tennessee secured a 6-2 victory.
Billy Amick made a memorable impact, hitting a homer and driving in two runs in his debut wearing the Tennessee uniform.
Right-handed veteran Drew Beam is set to start Saturday for Tennessee, facing off against fellow experienced righty Brendan Girton of the Sooners.
