Kendrick Perkins acknowledges feeling disappointed that Joe Mazzulla didn’t extend an invitation for him to be part of the Celtics’ circle.
Kendrick Perkins acknowledged enjoying Joe Mazzulla’s response to his “bird brain” comments made last month. After the Celtics’ home loss to the Nuggets on Jan. 19, Perkins remarked that if Mazzulla’s brain were put into a bird, it would fly backward. Mazzulla responded with a subtle retort, stating he couldn’t provide an injury report because he had a “bird brain.”
During an appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, Perkins expressed his appreciation for Mazzulla’s comeback, seeing it as a positive sign. He mentioned that facing adversity is part of being in Boston, emphasizing his own experiences playing there for eight-and-a-half years. Perkins highlighted the scrutiny from the media and fanbase, advising Mazzulla to prepare for it.
Perkins also revealed feeling upset about not receiving an invitation from Mazzulla to be around the team, despite Mazzulla’s earlier outreach to former players via email. Not receiving the email left Perkins feeling neglected, especially given his close relationship with Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck.
Despite his personal feelings, Perkins maintains his professional impartiality and predicts that the Celtics will make it to the NBA Finals this year. He believes they will dominate the Eastern Conference.
