Reportedly, Besiktas have expressed their desire to secure the services of Nottingham Forest’s defender Joe Worrall on a permanent basis during the upcoming summer transfer window. Worrall, who serves as Forest’s captain, was permitted to depart the club in January due to his reduced playing time under managers Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo this season.
During Cooper’s tenure, Worrall, along with Scott McKenna, was excluded from the squad, leading to their loan moves, with McKenna joining Copenhagen last month. Besiktas acquired Worrall on loan towards the end of the transfer window, with an option to make the deal permanent.
Although it’s still early in his stint with Besiktas, reports from Turkish outlet A Spor suggest that the club intends to approach Forest regarding Worrall’s permanent transfer at the conclusion of the season.
Worrall has already made appearances for Besiktas, debuting as a late substitute in a Turkish Cup victory over Antalyaspor and subsequently earning his first start, contributing to a clean sheet in a goalless draw against Kayserispor.
Expected to feature in Besiktas’ upcoming match against Konyaspor, Worrall aims to help his team secure a European spot in the Super Lig. With Galatasaray and Fenerbahce holding significant leads in the league, Besiktas currently occupies the fourth position, vying for minor European qualifications.
In an interview with talkSPORT before his departure from Forest, Worrall emphasized his need for regular playing time, acknowledging the competition for spots in the squad. Despite signing a contract extension, limited game time prompted Worrall’s move, prioritizing the opportunity to play regularly and regain match fitness.
At Forest, defenders such as Moussa Niakhate, Andrew Omobamidele, Willy Boly, and Felipe have often been preferred over Worrall, with Felipe partnering Murillo in defense during their recent clean sheet against West Ham United.
