On Sunday, the Miami Heat made a move by signing guard Delon Wright, just two days after he reached a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards, where he had spent the season so far.

Following the buyout agreement, Delon Wright’s representative, Greg Lawrence, confirmed his client’s intention to join the Heat.

Wright, who is 31 years old, has had a modest season with the Wizards, averaging 4.1 points and playing 13.8 minutes per game in 33 appearances off the bench. His season was hampered by a knee injury in November, causing him to miss over six weeks of action.

Standing at 6-foot-5, Wright’s addition could strengthen the Miami Heat’s depth in the backcourt, especially with recent injuries, such as Terry Rozier’s knee injury, who the club acquired recently. Rozier’s timeline for return has been described as week-to-week.

This move comes as Wright concludes his second season with the Wizards, where he put up an average of 7.4 points in 50 games during the previous season.

Throughout his nine-year career spanning seven teams, Wright has maintained averages of 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 494 games, with 84 starts. He was initially drafted in the first round (20th overall) by the Toronto Raptors in 2015.

It’s worth noting that Delon Wright’s older brother, Dorell Wright, was also associated with the Heat, having been their first-round pick (No. 19 overall) in the 2004 NBA Draft and was part of the Miami team that clinched the 2006 NBA Finals.
