Ipswich easily defeated struggling Millwall, halting a three-game streak without a win in the Championship and closing the gap to three points behind the automatic promotion positions.

Millwall started strongly at The Den but lost momentum after Nathan Broadhead connected with Omari Hutchinson’s whipped cross and scored with a clever back-header past keeper Matija Sarkic. Wes Harding’s own goal from Broadhead’s center and Kieffer Moore’s header from Harry Clarke’s cross increased Ipswich’s lead just before halftime.

In the second half, Millwall attempted to salvage some pride as Ipswich eased off, but it was Ipswich who scored again in stoppage time when Murray Wallace fouled Ali Al-Hamadi, who converted the resulting penalty.

This win marked only Ipswich’s second victory in 10 league matches and was vital, benefiting from Southampton’s loss at Bristol City to move within a point of third-placed Saints and three points behind Leeds in second, with a game in hand.

In contrast, Millwall seems to be heading towards a relegation battle as they suffered their fifth defeat in six winless league matches, leaving them just one place and four points above the relegation zone.

Despite their early struggles, Millwall initially tested Ipswich’s goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky with strikes from George Saville and Ryan Leonard. However, Ipswich gained momentum, led by Nathan Broadhead’s excellent performance, which helped them take control of the game.

Ipswich, under Kieran McKenna’s leadership in his 100th league game in charge, showcased their skills and effectively managed to secure the win, with Kieffer Moore scoring his third goal in as many games.

Millwall manager Joe Edwards expressed frustration, citing a poor goal conceded as a turning point in the match. Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna acknowledged the team’s strong performance, highlighting their ability to defend well against Millwall’s set-pieces and control the game effectively.
