Matthews from the Maple Leafs and McDavid from the Oilers stand out as NHL stars of the week.

NEW YORK — Auston Matthews, centre for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Connor McDavid, centre for the Edmonton Oilers, and Matthew Tkachuk, left-wing for the Florida Panthers, have been selected as the NHL’s top three stars of the week.

Matthews achieved hat tricks in back-to-back games and contributed two assists as the Maple Leafs secured a perfect 3-0-0 week, propelling them into third place in the Atlantic Division. Following a scoreless outing in a 4-1 victory against St. Louis on Tuesday, Matthews netted his first career natural hat trick during a thrilling 4-3 overtime triumph over Philadelphia on Thursday. He then set a personal record with five points (three goals, two assists) in a commanding 9-2 victory against Anaheim on Saturday. His achievement of six hat tricks in a season places him among the NHL’s elite, making him the 10th player in history to accomplish this feat.

McDavid delivered an exceptional performance with 10 assists across three games, steering the Oilers to two wins out of three contests. He notably set a career best with six assists — just one short of the single-game League record — in an impressive 8-4 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Tkachuk contributed three goals and five assists throughout three games, aiding the Panthers in extending their winning streak to five games and securing the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
