Leeds United officially submitted an offer for Besiktas winger Milot Rashica during the winter transfer window, as reported by Takvim.
The Turkish publication stated on February 18th that Leeds proposed £5.9 million for Rashica, a former player of Norwich City, with the intention of strengthening their squad with another seasoned player.
However, it appears that Rashica is content in Turkey, having made 14 league starts already, and manager Fernando Santos has no plans to let him depart.
The connection to Rashica makes sense for Leeds, given that their manager Daniel Farke previously worked with the 27-year-old during their time in the English top flight. Rashica made 40 appearances for Norwich City after joining from Werder Bremen, where he played over a hundred matches in the Bundesliga.
After their relegation from the Premier League last season, Leeds United are eager for promotion but also wary of the possibility of another drop to the Championship.
Farke has proven his ability to secure promotion to the Premier League, achieving it twice with Norwich City. However, he will be keen to avoid a repeat of his last stint in the top flight, where Norwich endured a record-breaking 15 consecutive losses in the 2021/22 season before Farke was dismissed.
With Southampton closely trailing Leeds in the race for automatic promotion, the competition could remain intense until the end of the season.
Should Leeds successfully secure promotion this season, Rashica’s experience and knowledge could significantly benefit the squad. Considering the relatively low price of £5.9 million, it would be difficult to pass up the opportunity if Besiktas were to agree to the deal.
