Lions urged to consider a “high-end” acquisition worth $43 million for their starting lineup.

It’s widely acknowledged that the Detroit Lions have significant needs at cornerback, edge rusher, and guard heading into this offseason, a sentiment echoed by Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department. However, in a review pinpointing each team’s less obvious needs, BR identified safety, wide receiver, and defensive tackle as additional areas the Lions could target. BR suggested that veteran DaQuan Jones could be a suitable option at defensive tackle.

Jones, whose two-year contract with the Buffalo Bills is set to expire, will become an unrestricted free agent in March. The BR scouting department argued that given Detroit’s salary cap situation and their current competitive window, adding an experienced player who can make an immediate impact would be a wise move. While acquiring a tackle like Jones or Justin Madubuike might be seen as a luxury expenditure, it would effectively shore up any deficiencies in the Lions’ front seven.

According to Spotrac, Jones has earned just over $43 million throughout his decade-long NFL career. His most recent contract was a two-year, $14 million deal with the Bills. In the 2023 season, he recorded 16 combined tackles, including four tackles for loss, along with five quarterback hits and 2.5 sacks in seven games.
