The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the lookout for a quarterback, possibly to challenge Kenny Pickett, and while they are still hopeful for Mason Rudolph’s return, another potential candidate has emerged. NFL analyst Rich Eisen has introduced a new name into the mix, suggesting that the Steelers could consider signing former Las Vegas Raider Jimmy Garoppolo as Pickett’s backup if Rudolph doesn’t return. Garoppolo, who is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s drug policy, is expected to be released by the Raiders before mid-March. While Rudolph remains the Steelers’ primary option, there are reports indicating he might seek opportunities elsewhere this offseason, prompting Pittsburgh to explore other veteran quarterbacks. Eisen believes Garoppolo could initially join as a backup but could potentially develop into a starting option for the Steelers. Despite previous doubts about Garoppolo’s prospects, Eisen points out his successful track record as a starter in the NFL, including a Super Bowl appearance with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. At 32 years old, Garoppolo boasts a strong record as a starter, with 94 touchdowns and 51 interceptions.
