Ravens’ Approach to Free Agency Following the Acquisition of Wide Receiver Nelson Agholor

After an impressive resurgence by its wide receiver corps, Baltimore opted to retain Nelson Agholor, securing his presence for at least another season. However, this decision prompts inquiries about the status of other prospective free agents. The Ravens were unable to finalize contract extensions for four pivotal players before the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Monday, meaning these individuals will now enter free agency when the new league year commences on March 13.

Guard Kevin Zeitler, running back Gus Edwards, and defensive backs Rock Ya-Sin and Geno Stone are set to hit the open market next month. The absence of new contracts for these four players means Baltimore will face a dead cap hit of $8.3 million. Zeitler, entering his 12th overall season and completing his third with Baltimore, stands as one of the most seasoned starting offensive linemen. Despite his extensive tenure, he’s currently performing at arguably the peak of his career. In a contract season, Zeitler showcased one of the finest performances in his lengthy career, demonstrating remarkable durability by missing only two games this season and just four over the past three years. Meanwhile, Stone emerged as a standout performer, leading the AFC last season with seven interceptions and serving as a vital component of defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald’s unit, which topped the league in numerous statistical categories. At just 24 years old, Stone is poised for a substantial contract and the Ravens may need to pass if the asking price becomes unreasonable. Additionally, following running back J.K. Dobbins’ season-ending Achilles tear in the opener, Edwards stepped up admirably, accumulating 810 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns throughout the season. Edwards has drawn interest from other teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, if he enters free agency.
