Tennessee Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello recently drew a comparison between one of his players and UT football coach Josh Heupel, noting similarities in their quarterback skills.
Despite RHP Drew Beam’s background as a former high school quarterback, Vitello highlighted first baseman Blake Burke as reminiscent of Heupel in terms of quarterbacking abilities.
While acknowledging Beam’s likely status as “QB1” on the baseball team, Vitello pointed out that neither Beam nor AJ Russell possesses the same quarterbacking finesse as Burke, who exhibits a similar fluidity and versatility in his throws akin to Heupel’s style.
Vitello emphasized that while these players excel in multiple sports, they wouldn’t be first picks for a football game, underscoring the value of multi-sport athletes in college sports and beyond.
