Alan Stubbs is questioning whether four players from Celtic possess the caliber to elevate the team’s performance. Observing Celtic’s recent challenges, Stubbs has criticized their transfer activity, particularly in the sluggish January window, which saw only striker Adam Idah from Norwich City and winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna join the squad.
A 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock allowed Rangers to move into first place, prompting Stubbs to scrutinize four Celtic players: left-back Alexandro Bernabei, midfielder Paulo Bernardo, and striker Oh, in addition to Kuhn.
Despite Bernardo being on loan from Benfica, Bernabei’s acquisition cost £3.75m, Oh’s £2.75m, and Kuhn’s £4m last month, totaling around £9.2m. Stubbs doubts that any of these four players meet Celtic’s required standard.
Expressing his doubts, Stubbs stated, “If Celtic have their best XI on the pitch then it’s a different story, but they have to go with what they’ve got. Just look at their bench from Saturday – Oh, Kuhn, Bernardo, Bernabei – and I’m not sure whether they’re players who can take them to the next level.”
He further expressed perplexity regarding some of the signings and indicated potential repercussions of Celtic’s recruitment strategy over the past 18 months under Ange.
Celtic faces a crucial Premiership match against Motherwell on Sunday, hoping to narrow the gap, but their chances depend on Hearts taking points off Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.
