Tennessee appoints William Inge as the coach for linebackers.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel swiftly addressed both staffing vacancies in one afternoon. He brought on De’Rail Sims from Cincinnati as the new running backs coach, succeeding Jerry Mack who departed for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Additionally, Heupel secured William Hinge from Washington as the linebackers coach, as initially reported by VolQuest’s Austin Price.
Hinge arrives after a successful stint as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Washington Huskies, contributing to their Pac-12 Championship victory and national championship appearance over the past two seasons. Before his tenure at Washington, he held similar positions at Fresno State in 2022 and spent seven years at the University of Indiana in various defensive roles.
Under Hinge’s guidance, Washington’s defense rose to the No. 25 spot nationally in 2022, marking significant improvement from previous years. Transitioning to the SEC offers Hinge the opportunity to coach athletes at an elite level, a challenge he welcomes. With these hires, Tennessee has filled its coaching vacancies and finalized its coaching staff.
