The apparent feud between former head coach Jimmy Johnson and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to have come to an end. This is evident not only from Johnson’s induction into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor but also from his return to the team in a special advisory role.

In a recent interview with Joe Rose at WQAM 560 AM in Miami, Johnson discussed his unofficial involvement with the Cowboys. He mentioned that since his induction, he’s become part of Jones’ advisory board, although he doesn’t hold an official title. Johnson emphasized that he’s now “back in the fold” with the Cowboys, recounting a lengthy conversation with Jones following the team’s Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers, during which Jones sought Johnson’s advice on key decisions regarding personnel like Mike McCarthy, Dan Quinn, and Dak Prescott.

Jimmy Johnson Returns To Dallas Cowboys With Intriguing New Role For Jerry Jones

Despite maintaining broadcasting commitments with FOX Sports, Johnson’s ties to the Cowboys suggest he may offer informal advice to Jones and the team. Reflecting on their past collaboration, Johnson recalled the close partnership he and Jones shared during their successful years pursuing Super Bowl victories together. Although their relationship faced strains towards the end of Johnson’s tenure with the Cowboys due to diverging priorities, Johnson’s admiration for Jones remains strong.

While the specific impact of Johnson’s advisory role remains uncertain, his track record of success suggests his input could be valuable to the Cowboys’ decision-making process.
