Chad Johnson has stated that he was informed a nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback is joining the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers may be on the verge of a significant quarterback acquisition during the offseason, according to comments from one of their former rivals. The team has been identified as needing a quarterback upgrade to remain competitive in the AFC, and they have been linked to various potential options.

Now, it appears that one of these quarterbacks could indeed be heading to Pittsburgh. Former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson stated that he has received information suggesting that Russell Wilson will be joining the Steelers this offseason.

“When the Denver Broncos acquired Wilson two years ago, they aimed to bolster their Super Bowl prospects after enduring years of subpar quarterback performances. Despite extending him to a significant contract before his first snap in Denver, the move didn’t yield the desired results. The team finished the 2022 season with a 5-12 record and dismissed Nathaniel Hackett as head coach before completing his inaugural season.”

“The Broncos’ fortunes improved slightly in Wilson’s second year, winning eight games, but the quarterback was benched with two games remaining, signaling the team’s readiness to explore other options at the position.”

“While the Broncos’ strategy regarding their next quarterback remains unclear, they could potentially secure J.J. McCarthy as their franchise quarterback. Acquiring McCarthy might necessitate leapfrogging the Vikings in the draft, but he could fulfill the team’s quarterback needs.”

“Regardless of the Broncos’ quarterback plans, it appears to be an opportune time for the Steelers to pursue Wilson.”

“The Steelers have yet to commit to acquiring a new starting quarterback, but Wilson could present an intriguing option if they choose to do so. As Wilson is still under contract with the Broncos, the terms of any potential deal remain unknown.”

“If the Steelers were to secure Wilson on a one-year contract, it would afford them the opportunity to allow Kenny Pickett to develop while serving as a backup for the season. Wilson’s presence in 2024 could enhance the Steelers’ chances of ending their playoff drought compared to having Pickett as the starter.”

“While it has been a few years since Wilson performed at a Pro Bowl level, he has demonstrated glimpses of his capabilities as a dependable starter. With a completion rate of 66.4% and a touchdown-to-interception ratio exceeding 3:1, Wilson could prove to be a valuable asset for the Steelers, especially given the strength of their offensive weapons and a defense that remained competitive in 2023.”

“As a short-term solution aimed at securing playoff victories, the Steelers could do far worse than acquiring Wilson.”
