A previous Toronto Raptors hopeful secures a fresh contract with the Washington Wizards.

Justin Champagnie is getting another opportunity in the NBA. The ex-Toronto Raptors forward has secured a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards, as reported by Shams Charania. This marks Champagnie’s first chance in the league this year, following his brief appearances in five games last season with both the Raptors and Boston Celtics. Spending parts of two seasons with Toronto, Champagnie showed promise as a rookie, earning playing time and contributing as a bench player, featuring in 36 games during the 2021-22 season after going undrafted in 2021. Despite injuries hampering his second season and leading to his release from Toronto, Champagnie has excelled with the Sioux Falls Skyforce this season, averaging 23 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Although his three-point shooting hasn’t matched his rookie season, which saw him shoot 40.9%, Champagnie’s stint with the Wizards presents an opportunity to showcase his skills, particularly on a team in the midst of rebuilding. With the departure of most of Toronto’s 2021 draft class, including Champagnie, who was brought in alongside Dalano Banton and David Johnson, the Raptors still have one roster spot available for a potential 10-day contract player, with DJ Carton already signed on Wednesday.
