The starting quarterback for the Sooners, Jackson Arnold, aims to enhance his skills in three crucial areas during the upcoming offseason.
Jackson Arnold’s introduction to life as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma was a mix of promise and occasional frustration. Elevated to the QB1 position after Dillon Gabriel’s departure to Oregon, Arnold’s starting debut came in the Alamo Bowl against Arizona on Dec. 28. Despite throwing for 361 yards and two touchdowns, he also suffered three interceptions and committed four turnovers in Oklahoma’s 38-24 loss in San Antonio.
Reflecting on his performance, Arnold acknowledged both the opportunities and challenges he faced. He emphasized the importance of gaining game experience at his age and stage in his career, highlighting the need to learn from setbacks and move forward.
Arnold’s display in the bowl game highlighted his strong arm, particularly evident in a 63-yard touchdown pass to Brenen Thompson. Despite the turnovers, his performance solidified the belief that he is the Sooners’ quarterback of the future. Coach Brent Venables expressed confidence in Arnold’s potential, praising his character and resilience.
As Venables stated, being the quarterback at Oklahoma comes with immense responsibility, but he believes Arnold is well-equipped to handle it, possessing the right qualities and mindset for success.
