Brooks Wright discusses signing with Tennessee baseball
Tennessee baseball signee Brooks Wright discussed signing with the Vols at the first annual East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Media Day.
The event took place Wednesday at Dick’s House of Sport in Knoxville.
Wright signed with Tennessee on Feb. 7. He committed to play for the Vols in 2020 while in eighth grade.
“It was a dream come true,” Wright said. “I just always wanted to play for the Vols. I’ve always been a guy that wanted to stay close to home.”
Wright said his decision to play for his hometown school was not based on Tennessee’s recent success.
“I wanted to play there when I was a kid and I remember going there, and I remember going to games over there when they weren’t very good,” Wright said. “They really weren’t very good until coach (Tony Vitello) got there, and he got there in 2018.”
The 2024 prospect is from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. He played catcher, first base and pitcher at Bearden.
As a junior in 2023, Wright recorded a .415 batting average, six home runs, 26 RBIs, 10 doubles and 34 walks.
He also surrendered 12 stolen bases in 155 innings last season.
Wright enters his senior campaign at Bearden in 2024. He started for three seasons and was the District 4-4A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior
