The decision was announced Thursday, marking Badgley’s return to the team after concluding the regular season with them and participating in all three playoff matchups. Badgley previously served as the Lions’ kicker in 2022.

During his tenure with the Lions in the 2023 season, Badgley displayed consistency, successfully converting all four of his field-goal attempts across four regular-season games. His noteworthy performance included tying a playoff team record with a 54-yard field goal against the Los Angeles Rams, a pivotal contribution that helped secure the Lions’ first playoff victory in over three decades.

Since making his NFL debut in 2018 with the Los Angeles Chargers, Badgley has successfully converted 98 of 119 field goals across stints with multiple teams including Indianapolis, Tennessee, Chicago, and the Lions.
