Kevin Ollie wants energy and a hunter mentality from his players in his debut as the Brooklyn Nets interim coach Thursday night against the host Toronto Raptors.

In his debut as interim coach of the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors, Kevin Ollie is emphasizing the need for energy and a relentless attitude from his players. Ollie takes over from Jacque Vaughn, who was dismissed. The Nets, who have lost five of their last six games, including a 136-86 defeat to the Boston Celtics on Feb. 14, are hoping for a turnaround under Ollie’s leadership. With 28 games left in the regular season, Ollie aims to revitalize the team and make his case for becoming the permanent coach next season.

“We’re all being evaluated in these 28 games, players included,” Ollie remarked. “We need to be on the same page, pulling in the same direction to get the job done.”

Meanwhile, the struggling Raptors, who have lost three consecutive games after winning the opener of a five-game homestand, are in a 3-11 slump. Ollie is demanding effort and intensity from his Nets players.

“That’s my coaching philosophy. That’s what I expect,” Ollie stated. “I want them to hold me to that standard from Day 1. We can’t rank 30th in loose balls. We can’t have just five charges all season. We can’t afford those lapses…

“I want hunters. If you’re hunting, you’ll play. If not, you won’t.”

Nets forward Mikal Bridges confirmed that everyone, from staff to coaches, is committed to the cause. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back, even in the face of adversity.

Scottie Barnes has been a bright spot for the Raptors, earning his first NBA All-Star Game selection at just 22 years old. He continues to excel with career-high averages in points, rebounds, and assists this season. Despite the team’s struggles, Barnes remains determined to keep pushing for success.
