Armando Bacot refers to UNC as RJ Davis’ squad.

As March Madness approaches, the excitement and speculation surrounding bracketology are on the rise!

Many teams are still vying to secure a spot inside Joe Lunardi’s bubble, while only a handful are considered guaranteed locks. Conference contenders and those relying solely on winning their conference tournaments for a shot at an NCAA Tournament berth are becoming clear.

Where do the North Carolina Tar Heels stand in all of this? They currently lead the ACC and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with Duke. Despite some inconsistent play during the week, which has somewhat diminished UNC’s status from National Championship favorite to just another high seed, they remain a formidable opponent.

A significant factor contributing to North Carolina’s strong performance is the emergence of star guard RJ Davis, who is in contention for National Player of the Year honors. Davis leads the ACC and ranks ninth nationally in scoring with 21.3 points per game, showcasing exceptional accuracy from the free-throw line (90.4 percent).

Although Armando Bacot has been grabbing headlines in Tar Heel Hoops circles lately, recording a double-double in five consecutive games, he had high praise for Davis: “It’s his team,” Bacot told ESPN.

Such recognition is significant, especially considering the contributions from nearly every player on the UNC roster.

Davis expressed gratitude for Bacot’s acknowledgment, particularly given that he wasn’t even selected as Preseason All-ACC. “That means the world to me,” Davis responded. “I’m honored and grateful to receive that kind of recognition this year. I’ve been patiently waiting my turn.”

Davis and Bacot form one of the most potent duos for the Tar Heels in recent memory. As the regular season continues for two more weeks and the ACC Tournament looms, we can expect to witness more dynamic performances from them.

Will this dynamic duo conclude their tenure as teammates by capturing a seventh NCAA Championship for UNC? Only time will tell.
