Oklahoma Baseball: Sooners’ Offensive Rally Not Enough as Pitching Falters Against Dallas Baptist
Oklahoma experienced a late offensive surge, but their bullpen faltered in the end. Dallas Baptist’s Nathan Humphreys hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, breaking a tie game and leading to an 11-7 defeat for OU on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark in Dallas. Despite a successful opening weekend at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, OU fell to 2-2, while Dallas Baptist improved to 4-0 in the young season. OU managed to tie the game at 7-7 with a rally, including back-to-back home runs from Michael Snyder and Jackson Nicklaus. However, the shaky relief pitching undermined their efforts in the late innings. The offense struggled early despite getting the leadoff runner on base in each of the first four innings, resulting in just two runs. The game saw several missed opportunities for OU, with runners left on base and unsuccessful rallies. Starter Grant Stevens allowed five earned runs before the bullpen gave up six more in the later innings. Despite some individual offensive highlights, including Snyder and Nicklaus’s performances, OU couldn’t overcome Dallas Baptist’s strong hitting and pitching.
