Two Miami Hurricanes Named Among Most Impactful ‘Super Seniors’

The landscape of College Football has seen an influx of fifth and sixth year seniors due to the Covid season of 2020 not counting against players’ eligibility.

Heading into the 2024 season, many players from that period are embarking on their final collegiate campaign. Carter Bahns from 247Sports compiled a list of the most influential “super seniors” in CFB.

Among those recognized were two Miami Hurricanes: wide receiver Xavier Restrepo and quarterback Cam Ward, both hailing from the recruiting class of 2020.

Xavier Restrepo, despite being one of the nation’s quieter 1,000-yard receivers last season, largely due to Miami’s lack of team success, is now poised for increased prominence with an upgraded quarterback. As a fifth-year Hurricane, he stands to capitalize on a potentially more explosive offense this year, having already demonstrated significant productivity with 85 total receptions — placing him 18th nationally.

For Cameron Ward, delaying his NFL aspirations for another year marked a significant decision. His transfer from Washington State to Miami positions him as a contender for the ACC’s top quarterback spot. Ward’s arrival may catalyze a turnaround for the Hurricanes, reflected in their ranking well within next season’s early top 25. With a remarkable sophomore year at Incarnate Word, where he amassed 47 touchdowns, Ward transitioned to the FBS level in 2022, showing improvements across various statistical categories. His potential is poised to peak in the upcoming fall.

Bahns’ selections were not ranked, but notable ACC players mentioned alongside Restrepo and Ward include Louisville’s edge rusher Tyler Baron and Florida State’s quarterback DJ Uiagaleilei. Miami is scheduled to face both teams in October.
