“Titans’ New Defensive Coordinator Dennard Wilson Vows to Employ a Bold Defensive Strategy: ‘We Will Be on the Offensive.'”

Tennessee Titans’ recently appointed defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson delivered a clear message to players, fans, and the media. The revamped Tennessee defense will adopt an “aggressive” approach.

Following two seasons of playoff struggles, the organization has opted for a change in direction, with Brian Callahan taking over from former head coach Mike Vrabel. Nick Holz has been brought in as the offensive coordinator, while Dennard Wilson has been entrusted with constructing a championship-level defense.

Speaking through the Titans’ official website, the 41-year-old coach shared insights into his strategy and vision for the team.

“I firmly believe in this approach to the scheme, as General George Patton once said: ‘Nobody ever defended anything successfully. You are going to attack, and attack some more,'” said Wilson.

Wilson stressed the importance of tailoring the scheme to fit the players on the roster. A significant emphasis will be placed on blitzing and creating turnovers as the new coach aims to overhaul a defense that ranked last in interceptions in 2023.

“We will adopt an aggressive defensive style. Our aim is to be forceful in our tactics. We will prioritize intelligence and strategic thinking,” Wilson added.

Having achieved notable success as a defensive backs coach with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Wilson brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He contributed to the Ravens’ 13-4 record last year and was part of the Eagles team that made it to the Super Bowl in 2022.

The Titans ended last in the AFC South last season with a 6-11 record, conceding an average of 21.6 points per game during the regular season.
