An NFL analyst has developed a strong admiration for Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr., dubbing him their ‘draft crush.’

Following a remarkable 11-2 season, numerous Missouri football players are attracting attention for the NFL Draft, with eight of them securing invitations to the upcoming NFL Combine.

Ennis Rakestraw Jr., a standout cornerback, has emerged as a potential first-round pick, despite missing three games in his senior season but still recording 35 tackles. Scouts hold him in high regard due to his impressive junior year, where he notched 12 pass breakups. In mock drafts, Rakestraw is consistently projected as a first or second-round selection, with minimal targeting from opposing receivers in his vicinity.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller expressed high praise for Rakestraw, identifying him as his standout pick for the draft. Miller commended Rakestraw’s exceptional toughness at the line of scrimmage, particularly highlighting a game against LSU, where despite Mizzou’s loss, LSU’s formidable offense was ineffective when targeting Rakestraw.

Notably, Rakestraw showcased resilience by shutting down top receivers in the draft while nursing a core muscle injury, for which he underwent surgery in December.

In Miller’s mock draft, he envisions Rakestraw being chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 17 overall pick. However, Miller also suggests the Detroit Lions, the NFC Championship runner-up, might consider selecting him at No. 29 if he remains available. Miller emphasized Rakestraw’s physicality and tackling ability, despite not having the largest build, making him a compelling prospect for teams like the Lions who value such traits.
