According to a Sky Sports journalist, following Rangers’ emphatic victory over Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday (24 February), the significance of the January transfer window in the title race has been underscored. Winter signings Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes, and Fabio Silva all found the net, while Cyriel Dessers scored twice.

Benstead from Sky Sports remarked, “Has today highlighted the importance of the January window in the title race? Three Rangers newcomers all making an impact and injecting freshness into the team. Philippe Clement now boasts depth and options from the bench. Meanwhile, across town, Celtic may have £67m in the bank, but have they provided Brendan Rodgers with enough on the field?”

Initially, there were uncertainties among Rangers fans regarding Philippe Clement’s approach to his first transfer window at Ibrox. This apprehension stemmed from Michael Beale’s mixed recruitment in the summer, where nine new players were brought in, leading to a major overhaul. While some signings like Jack Butland and Abdallah Sima showed promise early on, others struggled, contributing to Beale’s subsequent dismissal.

Under the current manager Clement, there has been a complete turnaround at Ibrox, yet further reinforcements were deemed necessary despite a strong initial performance upon his arrival. The loan acquisitions of Diomande, Cortes, and Silva have proven fruitful under the guidance of the Belgian, with Rangers excelling in the Scottish Premiership.

Their collective contribution was evident in the dominant performance against Hearts, with summer signing Dessers also warranting praise for his brace. Credit is also due to Beale for bringing Dessers to Scotland. As a result of this victory, Rangers now sit five points clear of their arch-rivals Celtic.
