Although Duke is troubled by Filipowski’s injury, another injured player from the loss at Wake Forest should not be overlooked.
Duke basketball center Kyle Filipowski appeared to sustain a knee injury following the court-storming by fans immediately after the Blue Devils’ defeat at Wake Forest.
During the ACC’s weekly Zoom teleconference on Monday morning, Duke coach Jon Scheyer provided an update on Filipowski’s condition.
“We’ll have more information later today,” Scheyer stated. “I’m uncertain if he’s able to practice yet. He was experiencing some soreness yesterday, so I’ll have a clearer picture later today during practice.”
Filipowski, who has started in all of Duke’s initial 27 games, boasts averages of 16.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. The 7-footer contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the 83-79 loss against the Demon Deacons.
Duke has encountered eight games this season with at least one of its starters sidelined due to injury. Tyrese Proctor, Jeremy Roach, and Mark Mitchell have each missed playing time this season.
Following three consecutive ACC away games, the Blue Devils (21-6, 12-4 ACC) will host Louisville (8-19, 3-13) on Wednesday (7 p.m., ESPN) at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
