Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, is facing growing pressure to issue an apology to BBC Scotland journalist Jane Lewis following an incident during an interview on Sunday. Rodgers made a remark of “good girl” towards Lewis after Celtic’s 3-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park. When asked to elaborate on a previous statement regarding the team’s narrative, Rodgers declined and abruptly ended the interview with the comment “Are we done? Good girl, well done.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers watched his team defeat Motherwell 3-1 on Sunday.

These remarks from Rodgers have been strongly criticized by two advocacy groups. The Scottish Feminist Network stated that Lewis was simply doing her job by seeking clarification from Rodgers, and his patronizing attitude is disheartening in the modern era. Similarly, For Women Scotland emphasized the persistence of casual sexism in sports, highlighting the undervaluation of women’s achievements and their professional standing.

As Celtic continues to compete in the Premiership title race, currently trailing behind Rangers by two points with 11 matches remaining, Rodgers’ conduct towards Lewis has sparked controversy and calls for accountability. Celtic’s next match is against Dundee at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
