The win against Penrith has provided additional validation for Bevan French’s choice to renew his contract with Wigan in late 2022, particularly as he was awarded the man-of-the-match title.
He had the option to return to Australia at the end of that season, especially considering some family matters. However, he opted to extend his stay with a new two-year contract and has since achieved significant successes, including winning a second League Leaders’ Shield, last season’s Grand Final, and now the World Club Challenge.
Although his current contract expires at the end of this season, it does include the possibility of extending for two more years, though a decision on that hasn’t been made yet.
For now, the 28-year-old is focused on continuing to contribute to the success of the DW Stadium. He expressed his affection for the club, its winning culture, and his desire for ongoing growth and development.
Reflecting on his recent performance, French noted his satisfaction with not always feeling the need to make big plays, highlighting his ability to maintain composure and focus in high-pressure situations, which he considers a significant personal achievement.
