Is there a possibility for the Rams to recruit Chase Young, a free agent edge rusher from the 49ers?
The Los Angeles Rams are in need of bolstering their pass rush, and a potential solution could arise within their own division.
Recently, Bleacher Report highlighted eight free agents who could enhance a rival team within their division. Specifically for the NFC West, they suggested that San Francisco 49ers defensive end Chase Young could be a valuable addition to Los Angeles.
“While Byron Young showed promise with eight sacks in his rookie season of 2023, the overall performance of the team’s edge rushers was inconsistent,” noted Bleacher Report. “With nearly $40 million in available cap space this offseason, as reported by Over The Cap, and with key players like Aaron Donald and Matthew Stafford nearing retirement, it could be worthwhile for the Rams to pursue a significant move this offseason in their bid for another Lombardi Trophy before Stafford and Donald retire.”
Young was acquired by the 49ers before the trade deadline last season in exchange for a third-round draft pick. With his stock rising following his recovery from a torn ACL in 2021, his value is currently at its most favorable.
In the past season, Young accumulated 7.5 sacks, matching his career-high set during his rookie campaign. This marked his first injury-free season since then, indicating potential for further improvement.
The Rams already possess a youthful defensive core, and acquiring Young from the 49ers in free agency could complement their roster effectively, creating an intriguing dynamic.
