Nick Sirianni, the coach of the Eagles, expressed optimism regarding the trade rumors surrounding Haason Reddick, stating his hope that Reddick remains a part of the Eagles.
Two weeks after being granted permission by the Philadelphia Eagles to explore a trade, Haason Reddick’s future with the team remains uncertain. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his desire to retain the two-time Pro Bowler, stating at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that he is unsure how things will unfold but hopes “he’s an Eagle” in the end.
General manager Howie Roseman acknowledged that trade rumors involving Reddick stem from balancing immediate goals with future considerations. Despite the uncertainty, Roseman praised Reddick as a valuable asset to the team’s defense.
Contrary to reports suggesting Reddick sought a trade, he clarified that he never made such a request, recognizing the business aspect of football and the potential for tough decisions.
The Eagles, with a projected nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft, including three within the top 53 selections, could use a Reddick trade to bolster their draft capital.
Reddick, entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract signed in March 2022, has been a standout performer, recording 27 sacks over the past two seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.
While the Eagles’ cap situation allows them to retain Reddick in 2024, they face potential challenges with key free agents like Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham. Kelce and Cox are rumored to be considering retirement, while Graham has announced his intention to retire after the 2024 season. The Eagles must also address defensive shortcomings following a late-season collapse in 2023.
Reddick’s $21.4 million cap hit in the upcoming season is the team’s most expensive, with a base salary of $14.25 million, posing financial considerations for the Eagles as they navigate their roster decisions.
