Is it Possible for the Rams to Acquire Free Agent Edge Rusher Chase Young from the 49ers?

The Los Angeles Rams are in need of bolstering their pass rush, and an opportunity may lie within their own division.

In a recent analysis by Bleacher Report, they identified eight free agents who could potentially strengthen a rival team in the NFC West. Among them, the case was made for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Chase Young as a possible acquisition for the Rams.

“While Byron Young showed promise with eight sacks in his rookie season of 2023, the overall performance of the team’s outside pass rushers lacked consistency,” noted Bleacher Report. “With nearly $40 million in cap space available this offseason according to Over The Cap, and considering the looming retirement of stars like Aaron Donald and Matthew Stafford, it could be advantageous for the Rams to make a significant move in pursuit of another Lombardi Trophy before their key players step away.”

Young joined the 49ers prior to the trade deadline this past season, traded in exchange for a third-round draft pick. Now on an upward trajectory following his recovery from a torn ACL in 2021, his value is currently at its most favorable.

Recording 7.5 sacks in the previous season, matching his rookie-year career high, Young demonstrated his potential. This season marked his first injury-free campaign since his debut, hinting at further improvement in his performance.

With a youthful defensive core already in place, acquiring Young from the 49ers in free agency could offer the Rams a compelling addition, potentially strengthening their roster and enhancing their competitiveness.
