Described as a young prop with versatility to play in the lock forward position, Hughes debuted for the Bulldogs in the 2023 season, featuring in five first-grade games. His debut came as a substitute in Round 6 against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, followed by appearances off the bench in Round 9 against the St George Illawarra Dragons, Round 10 against the Canberra Raiders, and Round 21 against the Penrith Panthers.
