Reasons Why Certain Mizzou NFL Draft Prospects Could Have an Advantage Over Others

Eight Missouri Tigers are set to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, aiming to enhance their prospects for the 2024 NFL Draft. MizzouCentral’s Joey Van Zummeren and Quentin Corpuel are present in Indianapolis to cover the event. In their discussion following media interactions with head coaches and general managers on Tuesday, they highlight a noteworthy aspect that could positively impact Missouri players’ draft positions.

They point out that six of the combine invitees completed their entire college football careers at Missouri without transferring, a somewhat uncommon occurrence in the current landscape of college football. The six players who stayed throughout their careers at Columbia include Darius Robinson, Kris Abrams-Draine, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Harrison Mevis, J.C. Carlies, and Javon Foster.

Two players who did experience transfers are running back Cody Schrader and linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper. Schrader spent the initial three years (2018-’21) at Division-II Truman State before joining Missouri as a walk-on in 2022. Hopper, on the other hand, spent his first three years at Florida (2018-’21) before becoming a part of Missouri in 2022, quickly making an impact as a starter.

The NFL Scouting Combine events are scheduled for this week, with workouts commencing on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m., starting with defensive linemen, edge rushers, and linebackers taking the field.
