Promising forward agrees to a two-year deal.

The Canterbury Bulldogs have officially confirmed the contract extension of promising talent Samuel Hughes for a further two years, ensuring his stay with the club until the culmination of the 2026 season.

Hughes, who saw limited first-grade action last year, is anticipated to elevate his game this season, particularly with the Bulldogs facing depth challenges in their forward pack.

The team has undergone significant changes in their forward lineup since the conclusion of the 2023 season, losing several key players. However, they have bolstered their ranks with new signings, including Josh Curran, Poasa Faamausili, and Kurt Mann, who has predominantly featured as a lock or hooker for the Knights in recent years.

Phil Gould, speaking previously on the Six Tackles with Gus podcast, praised Hughes for his potential, highlighting his impressive performances in training despite facing setbacks due to injuries.

Hughes, a versatile prop capable of playing in the lock forward role, made his NRL debut for the Bulldogs in 2023, appearing in a total of five games. His debut came off the bench against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 6, with subsequent appearances as a substitute against the St George Illawarra Dragons, Canberra Raiders, and Penrith Panthers throughout the season.
