Former Leeds Rhinos forward Zane Tetevano returns to the NRL with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The 33-year-old, who spent three seasons with Leeds, has inked a one-year contract. He debuted in the NRL with Newcastle Knights in 2011, had stints with Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers, and later joined Leeds.

His 47th and final appearance for Leeds occurred in a victory against Wigan Warriors last May, where he received his third red card in the Betfred Super League. While serving a suspension, he suffered a stroke during training later that month. Tetevano underwent heart surgery to mend a hole and was released by Rhinos in September, two months before his contract’s conclusion.

The former New Zealand international made a playing comeback for Cook Islands last autumn and commenced training with Canterbury yesterday. After passing a fitness test, he signed his contract, and Bulldogs’ General Manager of Football, Phil Gould, expressed on the club’s website: “Zane is a highly respected senior player who will bring leadership and work ethic to our group.”
