Mark Robins might implement significant changes at Coventry City following the Sakamoto announcement: Opinion
The Coventry City manager has encountered numerous challenges since assuming his role at The Coventry Building Society Arena seven years ago. These challenges have ranged from minor issues like conceding a goal to major concerns such as the looming threat of liquidation. Despite the obstacles, Robins has successfully guided the club from League Two to the Championship, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League just last May after a penalty shootout loss to Luton Town.
Given the remarkable journey the club has undertaken under his leadership, it’s understandable why they continued to trust him even during difficult times. After Coventry’s 3-1 loss to Preston North End on November 4th, which saw them slide to 20th place in the table with 15 points from 15 games, Robins recognized that changes were necessary.
While the team had previously thrived with a reliable 3-5-2 formation, which propelled them to a fifth-place finish and a playoff final appearance last season, Robins opted to switch things up this season. Despite starting the campaign with a three-man defense, poor results prompted him to make adjustments.
Since implementing the new formation, Coventry City has accumulated 36 points from 19 games, propelling them to ninth place in the table, just four points shy of the top six.
