In a post on Instagram written in Japanese, Ohtani shared, “The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married.” He expressed gratitude for the support and stated, “We are still young and [there are] many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us.” Ohtani mentioned that his spouse is a Japanese woman and described her as “very special” to him, although he provided no further details about her identity.
The 29-year-old athlete disclosed plans to hold a press conference on Friday, urging the media to refrain from seeking interviews with him and his family until then.
Following the Instagram announcement, Ohtani’s marriage quickly became one of Japan’s top trending topics on X, formerly known as Twitter, with fans expressing a range of reactions. While some users celebrated the news, others lamented the loss of their beloved player.
