Los Angeles Dodgers’ standout player Shohei Ohtani reveals his marriage through an unexpected announcement on social media.

Major League Baseball star Shohei Ohtani made a surprising announcement on Thursday, revealing that he has tied the knot. In a post on Instagram written in Japanese, Ohtani shared, “The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married.” He expressed gratitude for the support and stated, “We are still young and [there are] many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us.” Ohtani mentioned that his spouse is a Japanese woman and described her as “very special” to him, although he provided no further details about her identity.

The 29-year-old athlete disclosed plans to hold a press conference on Friday, urging the media to refrain from seeking interviews with him and his family until then.

Following the Instagram announcement, Ohtani’s marriage quickly became one of Japan’s top trending topics on X, formerly known as Twitter, with fans expressing a range of reactions. While some users celebrated the news, others lamented the loss of their beloved player.

Ohtani, who recently signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, made headlines in December. Despite his lucrative deal, he opted to defer more than 97% of the contract’s value until after the agreement’s conclusion.

In his Spring Training debut with the Dodgers on Tuesday, Ohtani showcased his prowess by smashing a powerful home run in a 9-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox. This marked his first appearance at the plate since undergoing elbow surgery in September. However, it’s unlikely that Ohtani will return to pitching until 2025, according to the surgeon who performed his surgery.
