CeeDee Lamb might secure a contract that approaches the record-breaking figures achieved by Justin Jefferson.

Following another disappointing conclusion to their season, the Dallas Cowboys face an extensive to-do list. They’ve recently appointed a new defensive coordinator to replace Dan Quinn, who moved on to become the head coach of the Washington team. However, attention now turns to the contract situations of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, prompting widespread expectations for negotiations on a new deal this offseason. However, Lamb, the team’s top pass-catcher, is also in the last year of his contract, raising questions about his future with the team. According to insiders, Lamb could be in line for one of the most lucrative contracts in the NFL.

Negotiations for CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension come at an opportune moment for the player, if not necessarily for the Cowboys, who currently find themselves over the 2024 spending limit. Lamb had a standout season, setting new personal records in receptions (135), receiving yards (1,749), and touchdowns (12), leading the entire NFL in catches. At just 24 years old, Lamb is poised to secure his first contract extension since being drafted 17th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, discussions between the Cowboys and Lamb regarding an extension are underway. Graziano suggests that Lamb could potentially secure a contract that rivals the expected record-setting salary for receivers, particularly once Justin Jefferson finalizes his own extension.

Graziano states, “If and when Jefferson signs his extension, it will bring some clarity to the top of the wide receiver market and affect other deals around the league. Dallas and CeeDee Lamb continue to talk about an extension, and if there’s a receiver out there who could land in Jefferson’s contractual neighborhood, Lamb is probably that guy. The Cowboys need cap space and could save more than $13 million if they extend Lamb. But there are so many receivers looking for deals and so many available in the draft (this year and seemingly every year now) that at some point you wonder if the market will cool again.”
