In a recent CBS Sports mock draft, former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s impressive showing at the NFL Combine has catapulted him into the top three picks. The New England Patriots are now faced with a decision between McCarthy and North Carolina’s Drake Maye, with other quarterbacks expected to go in the top slots.

McCarthy wasn’t the only one who caught attention at the Combine, as several players managed to boost their draft stock in front of league executives and scouts. With notable quarterbacks like USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels opting to wait until their Pro Days to showcase their skills, McCarthy seized the opportunity to shine.

As the draft approaches, teams like the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders are all in the market for quarterbacks.

Here’s a glimpse at the latest first-round mock draft by CBS Sports following the combine:

1. CHICAGO BEARS: CALEB WILLIAMS, QB, USC

Caleb Williams has expressed his readiness to join any team that selects him. Until the Bears finalize their decision on Justin Fields, it remains uncertain what they’ll do with their top pick. There’s ongoing debate within the organization about whether to choose Williams or potentially trade down for more picks while still aiming for a quarterback. If the Bears view Williams as a potential franchise cornerstone, they might keep the pick. However, the situation could get complicated if they’re unable to move Fields and decide to retain their selection. Currently, Atlanta is reportedly interested in a trade.
