NEWS Report: Four Unnamed Steelers Coaches Displayed Visible Frustration Regarding Criticism of Kenny Pickett at NFL Combine
The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly embroiled in a quarterback controversy, a situation that raises doubts among observers outside the organization who are adamant about replacing Kenny Pickett as the starting quarterback before the commencement of the 2024 regular season. However, within the organization, individuals such as Omar Khan, Mike Tomlin, and Art Rooney II appear to be satisfied with their 2022 first-round draft pick leading Arthur Smith’s offense.
Steelers insider Aditi Kinkhabwala, speaking on the PM Team w/Poni and Mueller podcast, shed light on the state of the Steelers’ free agency and the quarterback position. Kinkhabwala indicated that some members of the organization are growing weary of the media’s treatment of Pickett, expressing outright annoyance.
“At the combine, there was considerable chatter casting doubt on Kenny Pickett,” Kinkhabwala explained. “I can tell you that several new staff members were so charged and angered by that. There is certainly a personal investment in seeing him succeed.”
While Kinkhabwala did not disclose the identities of the coaches involved, she revealed to Fillipponi and Mueller that four new coaching staff members spoke to her about their fervor for proving NFL observers wrong about Pickett. This suggests that the new offensive coaching staff has been entrusted from the outset with the task of making it work with Pickett.
The remarks made by the CBS Sports reporter indicate a personal stake for these coaches, which is somewhat unusual considering NFL assistant coaches are primarily responsible for enhancing the performance of the players they work with.
