REPORT: Denver Broncos Deliver Heartbreaking Update Concerning Their 31-Year-Old Player.

The Denver Broncos faced a busy week of roster adjustments as they aimed to comply with the league’s salary cap regulations, starting the week with a $16 million overspend.

Among their recent actions, Denver restructured Mike McGlinchey’s contract, made alterations to Tim Patrick’s deal, traded Jerry Jeudy to Cleveland, and released Russell Wilson, Justin Simmons, and their blocking tight end.

Specifically, they released Chris Manhertz, the blocking tight end, which resulted in a $2.12 million cap space clearance. With these maneuvers, Denver is expected to have approximately $30.5 million in cap space.

Manhertz had signed a two-year, $6 million contract with $3.35 million fully guaranteed last offseason, primarily due to his reputation as one of the premier blocking tight ends in the NFL.

Before the season commenced, Sean Payton lauded Manhertz’s blocking skills, acknowledging him as one of the top run-blocking tight ends in recent years. Payton emphasized Manhertz’s reliability, character, and overall contribution to the team’s offensive strategy.

In his inaugural season with Denver, Manhertz appeared in 16 games, starting four, and was minimally involved in the passing game, making two receptions on four targets for 16 yards across 367 offensive snaps.

Despite Manhertz’s presence, Denver’s running game struggled, ranking 18th in attempts, 18th in yards gained, 28th in touchdowns, 22nd in yards per carry, and 10th in rushing first downs during the 2023 season.
