Recent developments could compel Arsenal to reassess their interest in a summer target whose transfer valuation has decreased.
Following his return from a recent injury scare, Neto faced another setback during Wolves’ match against Fulham as he sustained a hamstring injury, forcing an early substitution after just 45 minutes. This recurrence of his hamstring issue has raised questions about his overall fitness and durability.
Wolves manager Gary O’Neil mentioned that the club had taken precautions regarding Neto’s fitness before the Fulham match, indicating their efforts to manage his ongoing injury concerns. Despite having remained injury-free since the beginning of the year, Neto’s previous spells on the sidelines due to hamstring problems have resurfaced.
Speaking after Wolves’ 2-1 victory over Fulham, O’Neil explained, “It’s hard for the medical department. They come and speak to me, and I come up here and tell you what they think, but there’s a lot of work that will need to be done to assess why (it happened). Pedro had a really good week. He had a scan that was completely clear. No muscle damage at all. He felt really good yesterday in training. Felt good again today. So just really, really disappointed that lands on me eventually, whether the decision to play him today was right or not.”
This setback not only concerns Wolves but also affects Neto’s potential transfer value. Initially valued at £80 million for a summer move, The Telegraph now suggests that his price tag could drop to “upward of £60 million” due to his injury woes.
Arsenal, in search of strengthening their wide attacking options, have been eyeing Neto. However, doubts linger over whether they would be willing to meet Wolves’ valuation considering the player’s injury history. Even with a reduced price tag, the uncertainty surrounding Neto’s fitness poses a concern for potential suitors.
