The Bears have reportedly traded Justin Fields to the Steelers, paving the path to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick.

In a move on Saturday night, the Chicago Bears traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, opening up the possibility for them to select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick, potentially USC’s Caleb Williams. The Bears received a 2025 sixth-round draft pick, which could escalate to a fourth-rounder this year, in exchange for Fields.

General manager Ryan Poles explained the decision, stating, “We have engaged in multiple trade conversations in recent weeks and believe trading Justin at this time to Pittsburgh is what is best for both Justin and the Bears.” He expressed gratitude towards Fields for his dedication and leadership during his time with the franchise.

Fields expressed appreciation for his time in Chicago and thanked the organization and his teammates in a post on social media. He now looks forward to the next chapter in his career.

With Fields moving to Pittsburgh, he is expected to serve as a backup to nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson, who recently signed a one-year deal with the Steelers. Fields’ departure comes after a rookie season marked by struggles under former coach Matt Nagy.

During his tenure with the Bears, Fields completed 578 of 958 passes for 6,674 yards, with 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in three seasons. However, he had just one 300-yard passing game in his career.

This trade follows the Bears’ recent acquisition of Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers, indicating a strategic shift in the team’s roster composition.
