Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan sets a new London Knights record by scoring points in 34 consecutive games.
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has etched his name in London Knights history by surpassing the team record for points scored in consecutive games, previously held by Dave Gilmore since the 1993-94 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season.
In tonight’s match against the Windsor Spitfires, Cowan contributed two assists, further extending his streak, as the Knights maintained a 6-3 lead in the third period. This performance brings Cowan’s total points for the season to 90 in 52 games.
Cowan, drafted by the Maple Leafs as the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, signed a three-year entry-level contract in August, with an average annual value of $935,833, according to CapFriendly.
His remarkable point production earned him a spot on Team Canada at the World Juniors in Sweden, where he tallied one goal and one assist in five games, though Canada was upset by Czechia in the Quarterfinals.
Hailing from Strathroy, Ontario, Cowan showcased his skills during the 2022-23 season with the Knights, recording 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points in 68 games, along with nine goals and 12 assists in 20 OHL Playoff matchups. He was recognized for his performance by being named to the OHL’s 2022-23 Second All-Rookie Team.
Prior to joining the Knights, Cowan played Junior B hockey in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) with the Komoka Wings, where he notched 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 24 games. He also had brief stints with the Knights during the regular season and playoffs, recording two assists in seven and five games, respectively.
With three games left in the season, the Knights currently top the Western Conference and the entire OHL, boasting a record of 47-14-1-3 and 98 points. Following tonight’s victory, London is on track to reach the coveted 100-point mark.
