Baseball in Tennessee Creates History
The Tennessee BaseVols are now officially the top team in the country for the first time in the rankings’ existence, after to a sweep of Ole Miss this past weekend, according to D1Baseball.com.
After defeating Ole Miss, the previous No. 1 team, sweeping the Rebels, the Vols rose from No. 5 to No. 1. In the eight years that the list has existed, this is the first time the Vols have finished first in the rankings.
Entering their midweek match against Western Carolina on Wednesday, Tennessee is riding a 15-game winning streak. The Vols’ 6-0 SEC start is their finest in more than fifty years.
During the weekend, the Vols swept Ole Miss 12-1, 10-3, and 4-3 in Oxford, with none of their starting pitchers giving up a run through six innings.
Complete the SEC in the rankings with Arkansas at No. 2, Vanderbilt at No. 9, Ole Miss dropping from No. 1 to No. 10, LSU and Florida back-to-back at Nos. 13 and 14, and Georgia, the seventh and last league team in the Top 25 at No. 23.

Tennessee maintains its top rating in the Perfect Game USA rankings, which it held last week, while the Vols secured the top spot in Baseball America’s Top 25 for the first time in program history.
